Groups among human beings are developed while keeping the interests, community, class, profession and sometimes-even diseases in sight. Right from the day man put his foot on the land; he realized that his survival is subjected to cooperation and mutual support. Working in groups has always helped man doing wonders. Whether it is the idea of developing a society, an army, or a whole administration, all have been emerged from the basic idea of working in groups. Taking guideline from this very basic lesson of human cognitive development, psychologists wondered about whether they could help people heal up from their psychological diseases and mental illness, while gathering them in groups. The idea was well worked upon and the psychologists came up with the thought of developing anxiety group and anger groups.

Developing anxiety group is all about providing a forum to the people that suffer from anxiety in their routine lives. By having a common platform, they can share their sufferings and pains with each other and that provide a good chance for them to have catharsis. Having interaction with the people that suffer from same nature of pains and problems, realize them the pains of rest of the group members and they feel that they are not the only victim of problems. This sharing process helps in emotional healing, as the burden from the minds is released. As far as the results from an anxiety group are concerned, nothing can be said with surety, but of course people that have been through these groups claim that they felt much better after sharing their pains with others. Despite of the claims that members of any such groups make, there are disagreements about the effectiveness of any such anxiety group.

Those that resist the idea of developing such social support groups too have solid points to base their opinion. They claim that, though having an anxiety group provides a chance of catharsis, but in such forums, while people are sharing their experiences with each other, there can be some triggering points that can cause rage and anger among members. They believe that if people have to make such groups, they should better take help from some professional psychologists that would guide them to mold their behaviors. As far as taking help from some psychologist is concerned, the criticism is quite constructive, and while keeping this point in mind now psychologists themselves are offering programs comprises of social support groups. In all such groups the psychologists focus upon attitude building, behavior modification, anxiety control and emotional healing. When such helps are provided by the experienced professionals, it is of course bound to yield positive results.

Results that have been taken from the social support or anxiety groups, developed by the professional psychologists, are quite worth considering, as well as encouraging. The main point to ponder here is that if such anxiety groups are provided with professional help, and besides catharsis, equip the members with necessary tools of emotional healing, they can prove to be a milestone in improving the psychological health of common people.
